A new operational milestone for BZ Consulting: STS lightering of the VLCC MT Union Peace in Talcahuano

We are proud to announce the successful participation of our Team in one of the most relevant maritime operations of the year: the lightering (Ship-To-Ship / STS) of the colossal vessel MT Union Peace in Talcahuano Bay, Biobío Region.

This is the third VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier) vessel —a giant of 333 meters in length and more than 311,000 deadweight tons— served by our Team in Chilean waters for the supervision of crude oil transport.

In operations of this magnitude, millimetric precision is non-negotiable. BZ Consulting led the specialized Loss Control Survey service, rigorously supervising and validating every critical phase of the transfer:

• 📏 High-precision product level measurements in tanks.
• 🧪 Tank sampling, a critical activity to obtain reliable analysis results, especially in the determination of impurities such as suspended water and sediment.
• 🌡️ Temperature measurement and control using calibrated equipment and procedures in accordance with API standards, ensuring the correct volumetric correction of the crude oil.
• 💧 Free water measurement, carried out using water paste applied directly to the UTI sensor, to precisely identify the interface between the product and the decanted water, safeguard the quality of the volumetric information, and avoid deviations in inventories and reconciliations.
• 📊 Calculation of quantities on board.
• 🧪 On-site witnessing of the quality analyses in the laboratory.
